The Jean Monnet Project is an initiative of the European Commission to support education, training, youth and sport. Named after the French politician and one of the founding fathers of the European Union, Jean Monnet, it aims to strengthen European integration by promoting education and exchange between Member States.

The aim of JeanMonnet projects is to improve the professional level and quality of teaching in higher education institutions, to assist young scientists in conducting research, and to disseminate knowledge in the field of European integration.

The European Union is a unique integration association, with a single internal market, a common currency and supranational governing bodies. Contractual and legal relations of 6 countries – Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg stimulated economic growth, increased competitiveness, contributed to the development of science and education.

Important dates:

  • 1951 – signing of the Treaty of Paris and creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC);
  • 1957 – signing of the Treaties of Rome and formation of the European Economic Community (EEC); European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom);
  • 1973 – accession of Great Britain, Denmark and Ireland.
  • 1986 – signing of the Single European Act and the beginning of the formation of the internal market;
  • 1992 – signing of the Maastricht Treaty and establishment of the European Union;
  • 1999 – introduction of the single currency euro;
  • 2004 – the largest enlargement of the EU. Accession of 10 countries of Central and Eastern Europe;
  • 2007 – signing of the Lisbon Treaty;
  • 2020 – Brexit. The UK leaves the EU.
